I was previously involved in the development of corn with geneticly engineered genes for fighting insects. How do you feel about the use of this technology and where should the foods be used? Any other thoughts about the concepts and implications?

I am personally scared to eat genetically engineered foods because of the things they use to make these changes. But i have learned that it helps alot in agriculture and making the food better.
germanrobot // February 26, 2008 at 4:09 am
i think they should alter humans to make fly with wings…
i woould be like kaka! Kaka! and people would be like is it a bird is it a plane? No its Germanrobotman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DUN DUN DUN!
nah food genetically altered can be made extra healthy because they can applie things you wouldnt normally find in that plant
and then like people’s problems ith health and obesity could become less effected
the world would be a better place

I feel that creating genetically engineered food products can be both helpful and harmful to our health. The altered products can be specified to what our bodies need to help us survive and be the strongest we can be. Conversely, the genetically altered products can be defective and harm us by putting the chemicals that are unnatural into our bodies without knowing what the effects will be. From time to time adding unnatural things to our food will be good but i think we should try to stay with the natural foods that we know are safe.

I think genetically engineered food is a googd thing because it can provide ways to make it grow better. for exaple last summer i went over to africa on a mission trip. the place was in a drought and could not grow food very well. if scientist could figure out a way to engineer crops so that they wont need as much water africans could have more food. Thats my take on it.

you spell “applie” a-p-p-l-y German robot…gay….but ne way genticially altered food isnt good for us…cuz its not natural just like breast implants…chemicals might not be completely tested and we will get messed up…bad
boner10 // February 27, 2008 at 4:50 pm
i believe that genetic engineering is a good thing because it will make food better for us and reduce some of our problems like obesity
Imspry123 // February 28, 2008 at 12:03 am
I think this is a bit of a drastic
measure for such a small problem.
I think we should focus such
important research on more prominent issues
such as disease and starvation.
madsc1ent1st // February 28, 2008 at 12:50 am
I think that that is cool that you used to genetically engineer corn, and as long as the extra genes don’t hurt me or make the corn taste any different, then it is okay with me.
oopplesnvronos // February 28, 2008 at 2:18 am
I know that some people think the organic is the way to go and that we should just do things all natural when it comes to food. But I believe that it’s more beneficial if we use the technology we have now to improve the things we eat. If it proven safe, and it helps us in the long run, why wouldn’t we do it? Not only can this help us health wise, but it could also help us in other ways.
emasonnn // February 28, 2008 at 2:40 am
i wouldnt want to eat geneticly engineered food. bc i would be afraid of what was in it. i would much rather eat organic food, it it would taste like cardboard, rather than eating some food that i have no idea what has been done to it. but if it wouldnt hurt me, and it was proven so over a period of time, than i dont think i would mind eating it at all.
antichrist1 // February 28, 2008 at 1:45 pm
I think that geneticaly altering produce to make it more resiliant is a great idea however i believe that through testing should be involved to insure that there are no harmful effects of the genetic altercations
boner9 // February 28, 2008 at 4:48 pm
I believe that genetically altered foods are bad for us. One reason i believe this is because ever since we have started doing this Americans have been becoming less and less healthy.
twatdidusay09 // February 28, 2008 at 5:03 pm
i think that this would be a bad thing… why cant ppl jst start eating more organic? and companys start using organic foods. its all natural and good for you without the bad chemicals and preservatives. if we are concerned about americans health then why would you want to eat food that was genetically altered.
xstephi92x // February 28, 2008 at 6:13 pm
I think geneticall engineered anything isnt right. But im not a scientist and i dont know if it will help us.
Maybe insects are an important part of the way corn grows> MAybe some of their natural fertilization makes the corn better? ever thought about that?
sfgiants5590 // February 28, 2008 at 10:03 pm
Genetic engineering is a needed part of science. This science can eventually help cure the diseases that effect our society today like Aids or Brandt’s loss of manhood.

brandthart08 // February 29, 2008 at 10:05 pm
just for the record…I have not lost my manohood and it does not need anyhelp from genitic engineering…but i do want more girth lol jk
moni09 // March 1, 2008 at 8:49 am
I think genetically engineered foods are a bad idea, mainly for the same reasons as everyone else… you never really know what is in them. It may taste good and all, but I’d rather know what I was eating than just eat something because it taste good.
hippiegoddess20 // March 1, 2008 at 3:12 pm
It depends on to what extent this modification goes to. Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone is a genetically engineered hormone given to dairy cows to increase their milk production. I believe that this is a step in the wrong direction toward a synthetic, chemically-intensive, factory-produced food supply. It also raises the risk of serious health problems in cows. So this question might also be an ethical issue. Should man’s need for massive supplies of milk endanger the health of dairy cows?
NKSCF // March 3, 2008 at 12:00 am
For me, I could care less about genetic engineered foods, as long as they’ve gone through several trial phases, which, to the best of my knowledge, all have.
I have heard of some cases where some hormones and the like used in chicken fingers, specifically McDonald’s, have caused some girls to go through puberty a whole lot sooner than they should and it having an adverse effect on them. I think the FDA had a study on this a couple of years ago and proved the above, but I don’t know if anything was done about it.

Genetically altering food is way too risky. I don’t want my grandchildren or great-grandchildren to be affected by my consumption of unnatural chemicals. Generations down the road could tell the tale of a mistake by the use of genetically altered food.
Mad scientist // March 4, 2008 at 12:53 pm
If your girlfriend is 14 and y’all get married, then your grandchildren would be about as old as everybody elses children, so they would be young enough that they wouldn’t be affected by all of the genetically engineered “super foods”that are on the market today.
hallacanhagermx // March 10, 2008 at 1:30 pm
i am fine with the concept of genetic engineered food, as long as it is tested and is the same as all of the other organic food that is sold in grocery stores today.
cayceee // March 10, 2008 at 1:34 pm
i think that this could help us because that insect might carry some virus or disease and that could harm us. But with the geneticly engineered corn it wouldn’t do anything to us. i’m sure that they would make sure that it wouldn’t harm us or taste any different.
mattman87 // March 11, 2008 at 7:45 pm
I wouldn’t mind eating any type of genetically engineering food, scientists have to make sure that is wouldn’t be harmful to us or taste much different either. Using genetic engineering, some foods can be resistant to disease and have a natural repellant to insects that can harm it. This can cut down on costs for spraying plants to reduce disease and insect infestation. The flip side of this is that genetic engineering might cost more than just spraying pesticides on crops.
williamunseen // March 17, 2008 at 11:28 am
I would have to say that I am a proponent for genetic engineering of food. I would much rather eat food that has been grown under the control of scientist than food that has been doused with pesticides by a farmer. Also, in many areas were people do not get at least 3 meals a day and are lucky if they can piece together a cup of rice, genetically engineered food can provide them the nutrients they need and help fight malnuerishment. Many Americans may be against this process, and I feel a big reason for that is because as a country we are incredibly spoiled when it comes to food. A serving size in Europe is barely a snack here. This is another reason that we are the most obeise country in the world. However, if food was ever genetically engineered in a way where people would not have to eat as much, many weight related diseases would have a plausible solution.
dopetastickentrock // March 20, 2008 at 12:28 pm
i really donbt think it can hurt me to bad
as long as animals arent being hurt its fine
especially if it helps control disease
